AYP Discussions on Cam

For many of young, the onset of adolescence brings not only changes to their bodies but also new vulnerabilities to human rights abuses, particularly in the arenas of sexuality, marriage and childbearing. Millions of girls are coerced into unwanted sex or marriage, putting them at risk of unwanted pregnancies, unsafe abortions, sexually transmitted infections (STIs) including HIV, and dangerous childbirth. Adolescent boys are at risk, as well. Young people – both boys and girls – are disproportionately affected by HIV. Yet too many young people face barriers to reproductive health information and care. There is need to work towards giving them accurate information about their health and rights and information about the services needed to protect their health.

After realising this we decided to take action and expand our talk show initiative. Fortnightly this year, young presenters from our radio show were on camera discussing various issues. Topics here fell within our major thematic areas that the organisation focuses on include Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights, Child Marriages, Teen pregnancies and Gender Based Violence.

This is within our strategic focus to empower adolescents and young people (AYP) with information through various channels in other words to be “an information hub for AYP”.
